A Few Words About Me

I'm Chris, a proud dad of two, a boy and a girl, happily married, and a bit of a tech enthusiast living in the beautiful city of Sibiu, Romania. Like every new parent, I too started my adventure with kids' birthday parties and holiday gift-giving with enthusiasm, but quickly became overwhelmed and frustrated. Not by the stress of managing an entire party but by the chaos that came after.
As a software developer, I'm wired to think in terms of systems and efficiency, but as a parent, I found myself fighting an invisible enemy - clutter. Every birthday and holiday celebration resulted in a floor covered with oversized toys, duplicate action figures, and gadgets that would keep my kids' interest for exactly ten minutes before being cast aside into the corner. I came to the realization that we weren't just accumulating stuff; we were creating a chaotic environment that was quickly becoming unmanageable for our family.
The Problem with Too Much
Living in a modern world, it's easy to get caught up in the idea that more is better. I quickly came to realize, however, that more is not better for my kids. When my children are given a plethora of toys, they don't play more; they get overwhelmed. When everything is competing for a child's interest, nothing stands out. In fact, studies show that too many toys actually decrease the quality of playtime and the development of focused interest.
Not only is there the developmental impact, but there is also the environmental impact. So much of what enters our homes from birthday parties is low-quality plastic or items that do not fit our lifestyle or values. I began to feel a sense of guilt, not only for the environment, but for the guests who worked hard to buy gifts for my children, only to have them not be used. I knew there was a way to bridge the gap between the desire of the guest to be generous and the need of the parent for a functional, intentional home.
Why I Created Togethrly
I created Togethrly as a way to solve my own problem. I wanted to find a way to encourage our friends and family to give my kids birthday presents that would mean something to them—maybe an educational set we knew would be beneficial, perhaps a book we knew they wanted, or even a contribution to an experience like a museum membership.
The goal was to help people be clear about what to get, not to dictate what to get. The reality is, most people who want to get us a birthday gift feel a tremendous amount of pressure trying to decide what to get. They want to get something the birthday boy or girl will love. By creating a birthday gift list where people can "claim" a gift, we eliminate this problem. We avoid the embarrassment of getting three LEGO sets, and we make sure that the items we bring into our home are wanted, needed, and long-lasting.
From Chaos to Intentions
Togethrly is a birthday gift list designed to be a useful tool for the modern, busy parent. It's not about being a "minimalist" in a strict sense. It's about being intentional. It's about making sure that our celebrations at home are about celebrating the occasion, not about dealing with the aftermath of unnecessary items we don't need. My goal in creating this platform is to help parents like me take control of an area of family life that has traditionally been chaotic and wasteful.
By using a coordinated gift list, we can reduce the amount of plastic we bring into our homes and teach our children about the value of quality instead of quantity. I'm glad you're here, and I hope this tool can be helpful to your family as we look to create a little more peace and a lot more meaning in our next celebration.
